They treated her like trash… until she called the Pentagon. “Who are you gonna call, Black

as she maintained her composure. “I suggest you verify my credentials before you make a grave mistake.”

Her calm demeanor only seemed to infuriate them further. “Oh, we’ve heard that one before,” Henkins chuckled, rolling his eyes. “Another ‘mistake,’ right? You really think we’re gonna fall for some sob story?”

Regina felt a mix of frustration and disbelief. It wasn’t the first time she’d faced prejudice, but it never got easier. She knew she had to tread carefully; any sudden move could escalate the situation. However, she also knew her rights and wasn’t about to let them be trampled.

“Listen carefully,” she said, her voice unwavering despite the situation. “You’re making assumptions based on skin color and gender, not on merit or fact. You’re choosing to ignore a reality that stands right in front of you.”

Cole and Henkins exchanged a glance, an unspoken agreement to disregard her words. “Save it for the judge,” Cole muttered, clearly uninterested.

Inner resolve strengthening, Regina took a deep breath. “I need to make a phone call,” she said, the authority in her voice undeniable. “You’re required to allow me that.”

They hesitated, a flicker of uncertainty passing between them. It was a small crack, but one that Regina intended to exploit.

“Fine,” Henkins said, tossing her the phone with a smirk. “Let’s see which of your little friends picks up.”

Regina caught the phone, her fingers deftly navigating the contacts. She dialed a number she knew by heart, one linked to the Pentagon’s direct line for urgent matters.

“Pentagon Operations,” a crisp voice answered. “Lieutenant Colonel Price speaking.”

“Lieutenant Colonel,” Regina said with a controlled urgency. “This is General Regina M. Cal. I’m currently detained by two officers under false pretenses. I require immediate verification and intervention.”

There was a pause, followed by a tone of unmistakable gravity. “General Cal, please remain calm. We’ll initiate a location trace and dispatch assistance immediately.”

The call ended, and Regina held her head high, a silent battle won. “Help is on the way,” she informed the officers. “You’ve made a serious error today.”

Cole’s face twisted with skepticism. “You think we’re scared of some phony call?”

Minutes passed, a tense silence hanging in the air. But Regina knew she didn’t have to wait long. The Pentagon didn’t take such matters lightly.

Soon, the distinct sound of approaching sirens filled the air, and several military police vehicles came into view. Officers disembarked swiftly, their movements precise and purposeful.

A commanding officer approached, his expression one of stern professionalism. “General Cal, are you alright?” he asked, casting a disapproving glance at Cole and Henkins.

Regina nodded, relief washing over her. “Thank you for coming so quickly.”

The officer turned to Cole and Henkins, his voice icy. “You two are relieved of duty pending investigation. You’ve not only violated federal protocol but disgraced the uniform you wear.”

As they were led away, Regina felt a complex mix of emotions. Justice was served, but the victory was bittersweet — a reminder of the prejudice she still faced.

Despite it all, she stood tall, a testament to resilience and dignity. As she watched them go, she knew she’d not only defended her own honor but also made a statement for countless others who faced such indignities. In that moment, she reaffirmed her commitment to fight against the very biases that sought to undermine her, continuing the journey she had pledged to pursue: one of equality and justice for all.
