**What I Do When My Dog Barks at Strangers**

Having a rescue dog is a rewarding experience, but it comes with its own set of challenges. One of the most common issues many owners face is their dog barking at strangers. This behavior can be unsettling, but with patience and the right techniques, it’s possible to manage and even change your dog’s reaction.

The first step is understanding why your dog is barking. Often, it’s a sign of fear or anxiety. Dogs that have been rescued might have past experiences that make them wary of unfamiliar people. Observing your dog’s body language can provide clues about their emotional state.

Once you’ve identified the trigger, begin working on desensitization and counter-conditioning. Gradually expose your dog to strangers at a distance where they feel comfortable, rewarding them with treats and praise for calm behavior. Slowly decrease the distance over time as their confidence grows.

Consistency is key in training. Ensure that everyone in your household follows the same approach to reinforce positive behavior. Remember, training a reactive dog takes time, but with persistence, your furry friend can learn to feel safe and secure around strangers.
